Applications for The Windrush Equestrian Foundation will open on June 10th, 2019 for the Young Eventers Programme.
London, June 7, 2019
After a successful and exciting first year, the Young Eventers Programme will open applications for its second year. Prospective riders can apply for a place on this programme from the 10th June until the 10th of July. Selections will take place on the 9th September 2019.
The 2018 riders have had a busy year so far, starting the programme with their education sessions offered in collaboration with The Young Riders Academy at the five stars show CHI Geneva and in Lausanne at the FEI headquarters, followed by their first group training session with Pippa Funnell, British Olympic rider, winner of The Rolex Grand Slam, three-time winner of Badminton and twice former Individual European Champion.
We are very proud to announce that Pippa will be our mentor and trainer for the programme for the second year running. Mary Edmundson talks about her training with Pippa: “the week we spent at Pippa’s was really inspirational and exceptional, she was so generous with all of her time and effort she put into helping us”.
The girls have achieved outstanding results this season. Susie Berry came 1st at the intermediate at Rockingham with John The Bull and has been nominated for the Irish Eventing Squad in the 2019 European Championship and Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Mary Edmundson came 6th in the CCIYH2*L Tattersalls on Porridge Town and Alex Kennedy came 4th in the CCI3*U25-L Tattersalls on Global Milchem JJ.
Our programme continues apace with education sessions in Lugano this June; further training with Pippa and our first UK education session in November where the new selected riders will also participate. Topics will include mental coaching, veterinary, course building and much more.
Once again, we are thrilled to be able to offer this fantastic opportunity to another group of young riders between the ages of 21-25, based in the UK.
The selection panel will be formed by Yogi Breisner, former world class Performance Manager of the British eventing team from 2000 to 2016, Darrell Scaife, Coach Mentor at BEF and High-Performance Manager for the Zimbabwe Eventing Team, Eleonora Ottaviani, President of the Riders Academy and Director of the International Jumping Riders Club, and Emma Chesworth, member of the Board of Directors at the Windrush Equestrian Foundation.
“We look forward to building on the success and learning from our first year and giving a new group of young riders this once in a lifetime opportunity” says Emma Chesworth.
