First of all, I just would like to share how excited I am to have the support of The Windrush Equestrian Foundation for another year. It’s certainly a big bonus coming from what has been a tricky start to 2020 and represents an enormous opportunity for us all.
We lost some lovely large limbs off some very old trees over the winter and I have been desperate to pull them out and make some inviting rustic fences for the babies… I think it’s safe to say it might be while before I’m hired to build Badminton but nonetheless some great additions for the younger horses to build up their confidence. Repetition is key – until they are happy enough that the log isn’t going to try and eat them!
The logs weren’t the only additions to the cross country field, we also took delivery of a couple of bigger corner fences – built by the Willis Brothers (actual builders at Badminton…)for my birthday present. They look fantastic and I can’t wait to get out and jump them.
With the resumption of BE hopefully just around the corner now, we have ramped up the horses work a bit to make sure we are ‘competition’ ready. I’m personally not going to be in a rush to get out Eventing as typically June / July are dry months and ground conditions can be like a lottery depending on how much rain we get. That being said we will definitely get the younger horses out and about to continue their education, just probably not ‘properly’ Eventing until the Autumn. The plan will then be to keep the horses in work for a bit longer into the winter as hopefully we return to some kind of normality.
As always I hope you and your loved ones are safe + well!
Will
