Lici Hawker prepping for the season

Busy, busy at the moment prepping all the horses ahead of the coming season! We have 14 horses in work ranging from 4 year olds to our seasoned 5* campaigners as well as a couple of lovely schooling liveries.

Following our week spent at Pippa’s with Windrush, all of the horses have been in bootcamp putting into practice what I learnt… It’s pretty amazing to feel the difference in their way of going and attitude to work already!

Last week we had outings to Rectory Farm for Clear Round jumping,  some XC schooling, dressage lessons with Richard Waygood and a couple of trips to the gallops. Our XC schooling day with 8 horses was in heavy rain and gale force winds – which will probably prepare us for the start of the season. It meant endless coat changes throughout the day but all of the horses were very happy to be back out doing what they love. This time of year we usually use the fields on the farm for our canter work, but with the on-going RUBBISH weather we are doing lots of back and forth to the local gallops.

We were gutted for everyone at Tweseldown who had to abandon this weekend which meant we didn’t get to run all of the horses – onwards to Swalcliffe next week!
