Pre-Season Tips – Week 2: Introduce new things in an easy context.

Pre-Season Tips – Week 2: Introduce new things in an easy context.

I like to take the opportunity in late January/early February to introduce some new challenges to my horses flat work regime, but the idea is to do it in a low key way.

Whether its moving sideways, shoulder-in or flying changes, I try to make the new questions obvious, without stacking it on too many other questions at the same time. Once my horse starts to understand, I touch on the new element little and often, whilst maintaining the ‘no big deal’ approach.

It’s not long before you need to carry on with all the areas of preparing for the competitions ahead, but hopefully when you touch on the early advancements properly again, your horse will greet them like an old friend!
